eLECTRÃO

Carcavelos beach.

Electrão celebrated the International E-Waste Day with an artistic installation of big proportions made out of used washing machines and refrigerators, in the seaside of Carcavelos beach.

In the last years, we increased the number of recycled e-waste, but we are still way below our recycling ambitions. We already know the statistics – only 17,4% of all used electronics are recycled but, recently, we also found out that 3 out of 4 devices that people send to recycling are diverted to the parallel market and are illegally processed. This SOS installation has drawn attention so that people can realize the dimension of the e-waste problem and start to do their part. In 2021, we also started a pilot project that makes us very excited, which is the door-to-door collection at peoples’ home in some parishes in Lisbon. Many people have some difficulty delivering their large equipment because they simply don't have elevators or don't have someone to help them put the e-waste on the street. To solve this issue, we go to peoples' home to get the e-waste. Lastly, we promoted a national campaign to fight against the parallel market, along with the official entities, the Secretary of State for the Environment and the Secretary of State for Consumer Protection.
